Online language lessons during Covid-19

Out of all the things that Covid-19 affected, online language learning was not one of them. In fact for many during lockdown with more time at home, it meant the chance to experience an online language lesson for the first time. A silver lining to Covid-19 for sure!

The beauty of online English lessons and other language lessons from the comfort of your own home is feeling more relaxed and comfortable with your surroundings. This relaxed atmosphere while learning a language plays a big role in helping you get the most out of your online lesson.

How come? Well we all know the feeling of being nervous to do or say something when we are out of our comfort zone. In fact this usually leads to your mind going completely blank or forgetting even simple sentences. That is why the setting for the online language lesson plays an important role.

So what can you do if you find yourself going back to work or back to the routine you had before Covid-19 and no longer are able to continue your activities from home? Again, the setting for your online language lesson or online English lesson can impact its effectiveness. Here are some tips:

Choose a quiet or generally isolated spot for your online lesson. If possible, move away from distractions like people walking around or talking loudly and even cars and traffic. If possible, find a table and chair or a bench to sit on.

Use headphones or a headset so that you can minimize the background noise that is unavoidable. Online language lessons are only effective if you can clearly hear your tutor. So make sure that you can block out as much unnecessary noise with your headphones. You need to be able to hear the English lesson, not the person talking next to you.

Have a notebook handy for your online lesson. Taking just a few simple notes during the lesson, maybe just a word or two or something you want to remember can really help you to focus on the lesson and not on your surroundings. It will also help you to retain the information from your lesson for next time.

Try to repeat what you hear out loud. This is another way to not only remember the word but it's a great way to focus on your language lesson and cut out the other distractions around you. Online lessons are very effective for allowing you to hear accurate pronunciation, so listen and repeat!

Online language lessons can be effective anywhere, that is the beauty of it being online, but some locations can enhance your lesson, and some locations can take away from your lesson. So test it out, see if the small changes you make to your online language lessons help you get even more from your lessons and improve your skills. Enjoy your next online language lesson in the perfect location and see the difference!
